A NEW CHAPTER ON THE WORLD CHESS STAGE — JAVOKHIR SINDAROV’S EARLY VICTORY

An important and significant event has taken place in the history of the Uzbek chess school. Javokhir Sindarov, a young and promising grandmaster from our country, achieved an outstanding result on the international stage and secured an early victory in one of the most prestigious competitions — the 2026 Candidates Tournament. By scoring 9.5 points, he gained an unreachable lead over his rivals one round before the end of the tournament and earned a place in the match for the title of World Chess Champion.

The 13th-round game against the experienced Dutch grandmaster Anish Giri once again demonstrated Sindarov’s thorough preparation and stable playing style. Playing with the black pieces, he maintained his positional advantage, converted the game into a technical endgame and, after drawing the game, strengthened his overall lead. As a result, he officially secured victory in the tournament.

This achievement by Javokhir Sindarov is seen as a logical continuation of his consistent growth in recent years, purposeful preparation, and extensive experience gained on the international stage. In particular, in 2025 he won the World Cup, earning wide recognition as one of the youngest champions. In addition, he achieved high placements in a number of prestigious international tournaments and scored important victories over leading grandmasters.

The results achieved at the 2026 tournament demonstrated his sporting mastery even more clearly. Javokhir Sindarov won six games, showing an excellent result in the modern double round-robin format, and stood out for his stable playing style, strategic thinking, and psychological resilience. This indicates that he has developed not only as a technically strong player, but also as a psychologically mature athlete.

This historic result is not only a personal achievement, but also a practical outcome of the systematic reforms aimed at developing chess in Uzbekistan, the policy of supporting young talents, and the attention given to intellectual sports. In this sense, Javokhir Sindarov’s success is inseparably linked with the processes of unlocking the potential of young people in the country, stimulating intellectual development, and training competitive professionals for the international arena.

Javokhir Sindarov now faces an even more responsible stage. He is set to take part in the decisive match for the chess crown against the reigning World Chess Champion, Dommaraju Gukesh. This confrontation is expected to become not only a major sporting event, but also an important international occasion that will attract broad public attention.
