On July 29, 2025, an international conference on the topic “Global Challenges in Combating Human Trafficking: The Role of Society and International Cooperation” was held at the Senate building of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. The event was dedicated to the World Trafficking Day , which is observed on July 30.
The event was organized at the initiative of the National Commission on the Issues Combating Human Trafficking and Decent Work, with the participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the International Organization for Migration, the UN, the OSCE, and a number of local and international partner organizations.
The conference comprehensively discussed modern threats of human trafficking, the role of society in countering this phenomenon, the protection of human rights, the strengthening of preventive measures, and the development of international cooperation.
The Director of the Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr”, Nigina Khayrullayevna Rakhimova, took part in the conference. In her speech, she especially emphasized the importance of studying public opinion for shaping citizens’ awareness, identifying the social and psychological roots of this issue, determining risk groups, and understanding society’s attitude toward the problem of human trafficking.
In addition, the Director of the Center, Nigina Khayrullayevna, based on the results of surveys and analytical studies conducted by the Center, presented scientific and practical proposals on the role and impact of public opinion in combating human trafficking.
As a result of the conference, a number of practical recommendations were adopted to strengthen cooperation between government agencies, civil society institutions, and international organizations.
