DEVELOPMENT OF CULTURE AND ART IN UZBEKISTAN: PUBLIC PERCEPTION, INTERESTS AND EXPECTATIONS

Culture and art are among the important factors in the spiritual development of society, the awareness of national identity, and the strengthening of social cohesion. In the context of New Uzbekistan, support for this sphere, encouragement of representatives of the creative intelligentsia, modernization of cultural infrastructure, and expansion of public participation in cultural life are becoming among the priority areas of state policy. From this perspective, it is important to study the population’s attitude toward reforms being implemented in the field of culture and art, as well as their cultural needs, interests, and expected outcomes.

The Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr” is conducting a nationwide sociological study on the topic “Development of Culture and Art in Uzbekistan: Public Perception, Interests and Expectations.” The study is aimed at identifying the population’s assessment of the current state of culture and art, opinions on changes taking place in this sphere, the level of interest in national culture, and factors influencing participation in cultural life.

The survey examines how citizens perceive the concepts of culture and art, which areas they consider the most developed, how they assess existing problems in the sphere, and which mechanisms for promoting national cultural heritage they consider the most effective. The study will also analyze the population’s attitude toward national music, literature, theater, cinema, handicrafts, historical and cultural heritage, and contemporary cultural processes.

One of the important areas of the study is the assessment of public perception of the initiatives and reforms put forward by the President to develop the sphere of culture and art. In particular, the study provides for examining citizens’ opinions and judgments regarding measures aimed at supporting young talents, developing the creative environment, protecting copyright, improving the theater and film sectors, and expanding public access to cultural services.
