MEETING OF REPRESENTATIVES OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF THE SENATE HELD AS PART OF “CIVIL SOCIETY WEEK” ON DECEMBER 1, 2025

As part of “Civil Society Week,” a meeting between representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations and the leadership of the Senate was held on December 1, 2025, at the building of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The dialogue became one of the significant events of the week aimed at supporting civil society institutions, expanding public participation, and ensuring openness in relations between the state and society.

The event was attended by members of Parliament, heads of civil society institutions and non-governmental non-profit organizations, representatives of public foundations, as well as members of the mass media.

The event was opened by Abdulkhakim Eshmuratov, Chairman of a Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission. In his remarks, he highlighted the work being carried out in the country to strengthen public oversight, improve the legal framework governing the activities of the NGO sector, and enhance civic engagement.

The introductory session featured speeches by Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Odiljon Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chairman of a Senate Committee; and Malika Kodirkhonova, Member of the Senate. The speakers emphasized the strategic importance of transparency, legal trust, an active civic position among the population, and effective cooperation between government bodies and non-governmental non-profit organizations in the development of civil society.

During the event, Sayyora Abdikarimova, Deputy Chairperson of a Senate Committee, informed participants about recent legislative developments aimed at advancing civil society, their practical significance, and mechanisms of public oversight. This was followed by presentations from representatives of the non-governmental non-profit sector. Nuriddin Jumaev, Head of the Surkhandarya Regional Branch of the Public Fund of the Oliy Majlis, and Mukhtor Bekmirzaev, Director of the NGO “Dialog,” shared their experience and expressed their views on the effectiveness of activities in the regions and engagement with the public.

The meeting was also attended by Nigina Khayrullaevna Rakhimova, Director of the Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr.” The Head of the Center presented her views on applied research in the field of public opinion studies and its role in the process of political and social decision-making.

The event continued with a question-and-answer session. Participants exchanged views and proposals on the activities of NGOs, improvement of the legal framework governing their work, and further strengthening cooperation between the state and society.
