IJTIMOIY FIKR’S CATI RESEARCH DEPARTMENT HOLDS HANDS-ON TRAINING IN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND DATA HANDLING FOR INTERVIEWERS

As information technology continues to advance, digital tools are playing an increasingly important role in conducting timely, objective and accurate public opinion research. The quality of surveys and the reliability of survey data depend primarily on the professional training and digital literacy of interviewers, who interact directly with respondents and collect primary data.

On 19 October, the CATI Research Department of the Republican centre of the study of public opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr” held a hands-on training session for interviewers conducting telephone surveys. The session aimed to improve their digital literacy and develop their skills in using modern information and communication technologies and cloud-based services.

During the training, the head of the department, Sherzod Boboev, discussed practical issues arising in interviewers’ daily work and ways to address them. Participants learned to work collaboratively in real time using Google Sheets. The session also covered the indicators used to assess interviewers’ performance in research projects and provided an opportunity to address their questions.

The department’s supervisor, Sirojiddin Imamov, conducted interactive sessions entitled “Overview of Excel and Google Sheets”. Participants received detailed guidance on the effective and safe use of computer equipment, keeping computer desktops organised, proper file naming and data security. Practical demonstrations also showed how to analyse large datasets accurately and systematically using Microsoft Excel.

Objectivity, transparency and accuracy are essential at every stage of sociological research. Interviewers play a key role in conducting surveys, and their ability to use digital technologies effectively helps improve the quality of the entire research process — from data collection to the preparation of analytical reports.

The “Ijtimoiy Fikr” centre regularly organises practical training sessions aimed at improving interviewers’ professional skills and enhancing the quality of sociological research.
