The Republican Center for the Study of Public Opinion “Ijtimoiy Fikr” has launched a large-scale sociological study among the population of the country aimed at examining citizens’ book-reading culture. This study has been initiated in response to the need for a scientific analysis of the changes taking place in society’s reading habits, the identification of public interests and preferences in the sphere of reading, and the development of practical recommendations to enhance the spiritual and educational environment.

The relevance of the study is explained by the fact that, within today’s digital information space, the balance between traditional printed book reading and the use of electronic and audio formats is changing, while social networks and fast-access information sources increasingly influence public attitudes toward reading. In this regard, it is important to determine the extent to which citizens read books, which genres and authors they are interested in, which reading formats they prefer, and which factors encourage—or, conversely, limit—reading activity.

The main objective of the study is to comprehensively examine public attitudes toward reading, scientifically assess reading habits and interests, and develop practical proposals to promote reading culture. In particular, the study plans to determine the frequency of book reading among the population; explore preferred genres and author trends; analyze attitudes toward printed, electronic, and audiobooks; assess typical reading locations and languages; identify how people choose books; determine the factors that stimulate and those that constrain reading; and examine sources of book acquisition, as well as the accessibility of books and related products for the population of Uzbekistan.
