585th Anniversary of the Birth of Alisher Navoi
In our country, the 585th anniversary of the birth of the great thinker, poet, and statesman Alisher Navoi is being widely celebrated. This date is not just another day on the calendar; it is a moment to reflect on national memory and on our attitude toward language, science, and spirituality.
Alisher Navoi was born in 1441 and elevated the Turkic language to a high literary and scholarly level. Through his works it became clear that the power of the word can shape the destiny of a people. In Navoi’s works, the individual, society, and spiritual responsibility are interpreted in close interconnection. Therefore, reading his heritage is not only a literary pleasure but also a culture of thinking.
In his ghazals, the central ideas are loyalty, morality, and humanity. In the divan Khazoyin ul-maoniy, he wrote:
Kimki jahon ahliga qildi vafo,
Ko‘rmadi olamda ul hech jafo.
This couplet reminds us that moral stability in society begins with personal choice. For Navoi, the word is a means of education, and poetry is an appeal to society.
Today, turning to Navoi’s heritage is a shared responsibility of every citizen of Uzbekistan. To make effective use of his rich literary and scholarly legacy, to preserve his works, and to pass them on to future generations without distorting their meaning is our spiritual duty. By reading Navoi, we preserve our language, and through language we preserve the thinking of the nation.
The 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi’s birth calls on all of us to treat science, the power of words, and national heritage with responsibility. It is not a return to the past—it is a conscious step toward the future.
